BIRD HANDLERS - FALCONRY DISPLAYS - FALCONER'S

Introduction
The skilled art of falconry has been practiced for hundreds of years, in fact since the ancient Egyptians although more commonly during the medieval period. Originally used as an effective form of hunting, falconry (also known as hawking) has become largely a spectator attraction where the falconer uses his skills and training of the birds to re-enact the long lost hunting skills. Apart from hawks many other bird types are used in falconry including eagles, owls, falcons, osprey and kites. For direct links use this map.

Making the best use of
Falconry and bird displays make an excellent main arena attraction that would be well suited for nearly all types of outdoor events and are commonly seen at many agricultural and county shows. When not displaying in the main arena the birds are often shown and displayed as an attraction alongside other stalls and are often of great interest to event goers young and old. Some events in built up areas may not be suitable.
How many do I need?
Unless you are planning to have falconry displays all day long at your event you will probably only need to book one falconer who will be able to advise you on the amount of birds, the length of time needed in the arena and whether you will need additional falconry display providers. Mainly depending upon your expected crowd size and any additional attraction areas.
Booking suggestions
Although some falconry display owners will travel longer distances many like to attend events within a certain limited area to reduce stress to the birds during transportation. Skilled falconers and falconry displays are often booked well in advance so you will need to contact and make arrangements in plenty of time. Fees. Normally a charge will be made that is agreed between the event organiser and display owner prior to the event date.
Regulations, insurance and other useful notes
All falconry display owners should be able to provide you with proof of public liability insurance cover if requested.
