The Vikings in Manchester

Ydalir Vikings is the Manchester group of The Vikings, the UK’s oldest and largest Dark Age re-enactment society. Our events show life in Viking age Britain and includes combat displays and demonstrations of domestic crafts.

You can portray anyone, from a humble fisherman, a monk, or a nun to powerful lord. We take part in various events to improve our understanding of the period, such as sailing the reconstructed Viking ships in Denmark and inviting experts on dying and textile manufacture to train our members.

Unleash your inner Viking!

If you think that this looks like fun, ask about joining us. Our members are of all ages and from all walks of life and we meet every Tuesday evening 7pm – 10pm, less than 1 mile from Junction 13 of the M60. No knowledge of the period or specialist skills are required.

What does “Ydalir” mean?

In Norse mythology “Yew Dales” was the home of Ull the winter god and was eternally damp. As we are based in Manchester, a place also known for rainfall, we chose Ydalir Vikings as an appropriate name.
