Welcome to this first edition of our newsletter for 2014. What a wet start to this
year, after the last two years of flooding on the Somerset levels we took the
decision to move our office out of Burrowbridge over the Christmas break and
just managed to move before the flood water started to surround us. A lucky move
for us but for many of our old neighbours who are still flooded their homes and
businesses are ruined and may take years to fully recover. |

A mobile caterer usually parks in the lay-by on the road between East Lyng and
Burrowbridge, that road has been under water since Christmas and was also the
year before. I did see a clip on YouTube as the flooding started and the chap
was open as usual with customers and water running under his unit. A converted
boat may need to be considered if this continues year on year.

Event Planning |

Water logged ground can make access onto
spring event sites a nightmare for organiser's, event businesses and event
goers. It only takes a few heavy vehicles and trailers to churn up what looked like a fairly
firm field. Using tractors to pull vehicles and visitor cars in and out of your event is an
option and is commonly used but may put visitors off from turning up to your event. |

If you use the event site or field annually it may be worth
investing in having heavy traffic entrances dug out, hard core and scalpings put down to aid
drainage and better vehicle traction. Another option to consider is heavy duty temporary road mats
which can be hired or bought from specialist suppliers. |
