Welcome to this June edition of our newsletter for 2009
events season.
With many summer corporate events and private functions taking place plus
with the main wedding season almost upon us we will take a break from our normal event organising
articles this month. Although many of our listed advertisers are specifically
geared towards large outdoor events and shows we also have many who provide attractions and services for
private functions, weddings etc as well as events. If you or someone
you know is planning a summer function you will know how difficult it is
to come up with new ideas to keep all your guest fully entertained
and well fed. Hopefully we can give you a few ideas and suggestions to make
organising your function easier.
A traditional village fete theme
If your function is for a large amount of people of all age groups and you have an open space why not set up a
smaller version of a traditional village fete. Start with a colourful marquee
for your main function, hire several side show stalls (coconut shy's etc) and
surround the area with colourful bunting. Then depending upon your budget look
at other services and amusements that would be needed. Luxury toilets,
traditional funfair carousel, inflatable fun, music bands, hog roasts, mobile bars
and perhaps fireworks to finish off. |

Booking suggestions and tips
Try not to leave it to the last minute to book services for your function.
Bear in mind that if you only have a small amount of guests and require lets say
an ice cream seller to attend, be prepared to pay a booking fee and not just for
the few ice creams consumed especially if wanted for several hours. |

Create your function or wedding around a theme
How about a chocolate box wedding with guests wearing Edwardian
costumes, hot chestnut and ice cream stalls, children dressed as chimney sweeps,
steam funfair rides with carousels and perhaps penny farthing bicycles.
Another idea maybe a medieval banquet with guests in suitable
costumes, a hog roast, medieval jousting or falconry displays,
entertainment from jugglers or fire eaters and mingling medieval character
re-enactors. |

Make an entrance to impress and remember
For the more adventurous bride and groom how about turning up to your
wedding by helicopter, hot air balloon or what about arriving via a romantic
steam traction engine complete with wedding bows and ribbons.
A guard of honour provided by military re-enactors can provide a grand way
to enter or leave the wedding ceremony. Alternatively Morris men and May pole
dancers can make for a more relaxed, light hearted, colourful exit from your
wedding service. Keeping to a light hearted theme apart from the essential wedding
photographer why not use the services of a caricature artist for great comical
impressions to give away to family and friends to remember the day by. |
